Aarle-Rixtel Textile

Our history

Founded in 1947.

Artex was founded in 1947 as a family business and has been part of multinational Hunter Douglas since 1990. What once started as a weaving mill for interior fabrics has now grown into one of the largest and most prominent Dutch manufacturers of various types of interior textiles.

Dedicated craftsmanship that builds on years of tradition still forms the solid foundation of Artex today. This, in combination with progressive entrepreneurship and literally limitless ambition, means that Artex has now acquired a unique position in the market. Not only for curtains, but also for other types of window covering products and furniture fabrics. The family business of that time is now a company of international allure with more than 200 employees. However, the informal atmosphere and high level of involvement have remained unchanged.

Part of an unbeatable team

Artex’s parent company – Hunter Douglas – was founded in 1919 by Henry Sonnenberg in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 1946 a joint venture with Joe Hunter took place and Hunter Douglas was born in its current form. Hunter Douglas believes window treatments are more than just covering windows; good products start with high-quality design. Hunter Douglas’ innovative window covering products can be found in millions of buildings around the world. Hunter Douglas is characterized by a decentralized organizational model and consists of 134 small and medium-sized companies that make and market similar products. The more than 23,000 employees work in a total of 100 different countries.

Teamwork makes the dream work

At Artex we value that our employees come to work with a smile on their faces to contribute to the high-quality products that ultimately find their place from Aarle-Rixtel to private individuals and companies on various continents. Although we operate internationally and think big, we are small enough to know each other by name. And we think that is important. Because together, steps are being taken, improvements are being made and the future of Artex is being worked on as part of Hunter Douglas:

“To be the fastest growing, most valued and most efficient player in the field of window coverings worldwide.”
